The River

Verse 1
I’ve got four new used tires on this ol’ Chevrolet
My guitar and my old suitcase
And I don’t mind this little city but I can’t stay
Come on down to the river girl, just like me

Chorus
Down by the river holding hands
Down by the river walking barefoot in the sand
Me and you down by the river

We’ll lay blankets down girl it’s all right
Making love by the moon and the star light
Me and you down by the river

Verse 2
There nothing left in this little city for me
It’s that same ol’ same ol’ same ol’ scene
A nice place to visit girl, but I can’t stay

I know the streets are lit and there’s that little bar scene
I love those kids with those guitars and those big dreams
But I ain’t afraid and I need you with me

Chorus
Down by the river holding hands
Down by the river walking barefoot in the sand
Me and you down by the river

We’ll lay blankets down girl it’s all right
Making love by the moon and the star light
Me and you down by the river

Verse 3
Away from those city lights and you can see all the stars
Grasses grew tall since we were here last fall
Remember the rain falling down on that little tin roof
Our little cabin by the river just me and you

Chorus
Down by the river holding hands
Down by the river walking barefoot in the sand
Me and you down by the river

We’ll lay blankets down girl it’s all right
Making love by the moon and the star light
Me and you down by the river
Down by the river…down by the river
